GUMP has a multitude of special events going on throughout the year. Lectures are presented several times, addressing topics of concern to our parents. In the fall, we host a consignment sale that features gently used children’s clothing, toys and other items. It became so popular that we had to expand to a spring sale!
In early October, our moms gather for a fun Mom’s Night Out evening. This event started with the introduction of our preschool cookbook, Angel Hair and Deviled Eggs years ago. The moms enjoyed it so much that the tradition has continued. A parent volunteers to host the event and everyone brings a dish to share.
Our students and their parents always look forward to Trunk or Treat at the end of October. An alternative to Trick or Treat, the children parade through the church parking lot, dressed in their Halloween costumes. Parents get into the action by decorating their cars and donning their own Halloween costumes and passing out treats to the children.
Our Christmas Chapel gives our students the opportunity to share the Christmas story. This meaningful program combines music, a play and the advent wreath, all in a simple way that the children understand.
Held each spring, our Art Show & Auction showcases the children’s art and happens to be our largest fundraiser. Art has always been a major part of our curriculum and this event was begun ten years ago as an expression of our belief that art provides rich and varied multi-sensory experiences that enhance learning. The church social hall is transformed into our very own art gallery with masterpieces from our young artists. An added component is the Auction, which allows parents the opportunity to bid on all sorts of items, from adventure park passes and beach house rentals to restaurant gift certificates.
We end the year with Spirit Week, which celebrates the end of another wonderful year of learning here at GUMP. A different activity takes place each day and the week concludes with a family picnic and entertainment.
