In 2007, GUMP collaborated with Abrakadoodle® to provide a rich addition to our art program. An art teacher works with groups of six children, ages 2 – Pre-K, once a week in our art room. These lessons introduce children to Picasso, Van Gogh, Cassatt, Monet, and Pollack just to name a few, using varied techniques and art concepts.
Music is provided once a week. Singing, finger plays and creative movement are incorporated into each session, depending on the age of the class. The one, two, three, and four year-old classes attend chapel once a week in the church sanctuary. The children listen to a short interactive Bible story, sing songs, and talk to God through prayer. Mrs. Casey gives the children’s message.
At GUMP we also take advantage of the wonderful local resources. Classes may visit the public library, the Chrysler Museum of Art, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, or the local fire department. Artists, musicians, and local health professionals also visit the preschool for activities with the kids and/or evening lectures for the parents.
When available, we offer space to private individuals to conduct dance, computer, and music classes after school. These classes are optional and are coordinated by the class instructors, not the preschool.
